COMPANY K&D Landscaping
DETAILS If you asked the staff at K&D Landscaping, they would say they try to be much more than just a landscape contractor.
And that rings true for the company’s “May Residence” project, a full property remodeling job that Jeremy Ross, vice president of construction, says considered everything from the home aesthetics to the unique mountaintop location with its final design.
“There’s a lot of very Asian-inspired … things on the site and integrated with the architecture of the home,” Ross says. “So that was the original inspiration behind the design as a whole … but also mixing in some modern (elements) with localized materials.”
Some of those on-site features and updates include a Japanese torii-inspired gateway and a koi pond with an I-beam bridge leading to the front door.
The location meant there were possible complications, though, including using the land’s topography and some clever piping to ensure water doesn’t run onto neighboring properties. And since native plantings didn’t always match the theming, Australian options like grevillea also took center stage on this project.
After nearly a year of renovations, K&D took home a bronze award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals’ Awards of Excellence program.
