Nufarm rolled out two new products: Last Call herbicide and Anuew turf growth regulator.
For use in cool-season turf weed management, Last Call is a postemergent product that contains a proprietary formulation of fenoxaprop, fluroxypyr and dicamba.
“Last Call provides strong, effective control of crabgrass, especially in the mid-tiller stage of growth where quinclorac-based herbicides are less effective,” said Richard Fletcher, technical services manager for Nufarm Turf and Ornamentals. “In addition, the systemic activity of Last Call means that it is particularly effective in controlling perennial weeds, because the product translocates to parts of the plant where it was not applied originally.”
The herbicide can control a spectrum of broadleaf weeds, including dandelions, clover and lespedeza, and may be used for the removal of bermudagrass from cool-season turf.
It is labeled for use on most managed turf areas such as residential and commercial turf, golf fairways and roughs, sports turf and sod farms.
Approved for use on ornamental lawns, golf courses and athletic turf surfaces, Anuew is a proprietary tool for cool- and warm-season turf management. Its active ingredient is prohexadione calcium.
Fletcher said the launch of the product is timely, given turf growth regulators, such as Anew, have been catching attention from university research that shows plant growth regulators are being used more frequently as a turf management tool on golf courses, residential lawns, athletic surfaces and sod farms. Turf growth regulators suppress vegetative growth and improve density and quality of desired turfgrasses.
According to a joint study by the University of Georgia, Clemson University and North Carolina State University, turf growth regulators may be used to manage annual bluegrass (poa annua) growth and development. Turf growth regulators can reduce mowing costs, prevent “scalping,” improve turf density and reduce the need to mow steep slopes, which improves worker safety.
“We’re excited to be able to bring this unique new turf management tool to the industry,” Fletcher said. “Anuew’s mode of action and low-use rate gives turf managers an effective new tool for optimizing turf health and appearance while potentially lowering maintenance costs and improving worker safety.”
