Allium Summer Beauty

and |

Color from an onion? That’s right. Although it is one of the first to come up in spring, Summer Beauty blooms later than other Allium varieties. Its long-lasting lavender-pink globes attract butterflies, but deter deer and rabbits. It grows easily but does not spread because it is sterile. It resists mildew and is drought tolerant, preferring average, well-drained soil.  Summer Beauty Ornamental Onion will grow 16 to 20 in. tall and 18 to 24 in. wide, in full sun to light shade, and is hardy to zone 4. Named Perennial Plant of the Year by the Wisconsin Nursery Association, it can be used in perennial beds or borders.
