Caterpillar unveiled new work tools designed to manage snow removal at GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., Oct. 22. The Material Handling Bucket and Straight Snow Push attach to a cat skid-steer, compact track, multi terrain, compact wheel, backhoe and small wheel loaders.
Material Handling Bucket
The 102-inch Material Handling Bucket, model 2591, is the largest offering in the Cat’s bucket family. Capable of carrying up to 1.7 cubic yards of material at a time, the tool is designed to cross-over between snow and agriculture applications, according to the company.
Its honeycomb design at the top is intended to give the operator a greater line of sight into the bucket, and the reversible and replaceable bolt-on cutting edge is meant to ensure complete contact with the ground. The built-in step features metal grating and improved grip, which the company said makes entering and exiting the machine safer.
Cat Straight Snow Push
Coming in various widths, the Cat Straight Snow Push features steel or rubber cutting edges. It’s designed to reach down to the surface and remove as much snow as possible, while the additional bolt-on back drag feature allows for a straight push to pull material away from a structure, the company said.
A spring-loaded trip edge with tension adjustment is designed to protect the Cat Snow Push and the machine from obstacles encountered when pushing snow and ice. The adjustable skid maintains a constant cutting edge height preferred by the operator, according to Cat.
The company said the Cat Straight Snow Push is ideal for snow removal contractors clearing large parking lots, roads and other paved surfaces.
