With July comes Smart Irrigation Month, a public awareness campaign launched in 2005 by the Irrigation Association (IA) to emphasize the importance of water-use efficiency.
This year, the IA is asking irrigation and landscape professionals to help spread the word on social media. It also offers some free resources for pros on its website.
“2015 marks the 10th year that the Irrigation Association and the industry has been celebrating Smart Irrigation Month, so it was fitting to take to social media to reach more people than ever before,” said IA Communications Manager Lenise Phillips.
Here’s what contractors can do, IA says:
1. Join its Thunderclap campaign. IA is hosting its second annual Thunderclap social media campaign to promote the Smart Irrigation Month message to more people.
To join the campaign through Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr, visit IA’s Thunderclap page. Thunderclap will request permission to send the Smart Irrigation Month message on your behalf to your contacts on July 7 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern.
2. Post a #SmartSelfie. The IA created a downloadable sign to promote Smart Irrigation Month. It’s asking industry members to snap photos of themselves holding the sign and to share them on social media. The association requests participants to tag IA on Facebook or Twitter and use the hashtags #SmartIrrigationMonth and #SmartSelfie in their posts.
“For this year’s initiative, IA wanted to reach not only irrigation firms and professionals but also anyone who uses an irrigation system,” Phillips said. “The #SmartSelfie is a fun way for irrigation professionals to encourage all of their contacts—business and personal—to start thinking about water as a finite resource.”
3. Share your Smart Irrigation Month strategy. Join the IA’s official list of supporters by completing its online form to share what your company is doing to promote Smart Irrigation Month this year.
