In response to the ongoing drought in California, the State Water Resources Control Board approved new water regulations for residents and business owners that will be enforced for 270 days, unless renewed.
The Sacramento Bee grazed the surface of the regulations, which were approved July 15, reporting, “It is now illegal for any Californian to hose down a driveway or sidewalk, or allow landscape irrigation to flood off their property.”
Violating the regulations could result in daily fines of $500. Moreover, some water agencies are required to alter their water waste contingency plans to further limit outdoor landscape watering. Agencies without plans must restrict outdoor watering to no more than two days per week.
