With National Park Week being celebrated April 19-27, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) highlighted some of its efforts to help the National Park Service (NPS) reduce its carbon footprint.
In 2013-2014 alone, PERC donated more than $250,000 worth of clean, fuel-efficient, propane-powered equipment to four national parks.
Blue Ridge received a $76,000 equipment donation, which included:
Mammoth Cave National Park was given a $62,000 equipment donation, which included:
- Three John Deere mowers (52,” 60″ and 72″);
- One Generac LP3250 and LP5500’; and
- One CleanFUEL USA dispenser head.
Yellowstone National Park was bestowed a $47,000 equipment donation, which included:
- One Generac LP3250 and LP5500;
- One 72″ Exmark commercial mower with Kohler EFI Command-Pro engine;
- One Manchester Tank cylinder refill unit; and
- Four Tankless water heaters.
The National Mall and Memorial Park received a $69,000 equipment donation, which included:
- Two 60″ Exmark commercial mowers with Kohler EFI Command-Pro engine;
- Four 72″ Exmark commercial mowers with Kohler EFI Command-Pro engine; and it
- Displaced six diesel ZTR mowers.
Over the years, PERC has funded nearly $1.7 million of projects, deploying a score of environmentally friendly technologies at parks such as upgrading existing propane systems; installing new propane generators and power sources; and replacing park fleets with environmentally friendly and cost-effective propane autogas busses, shuttles, maintenance vehicles and propane mowers.
