STIHL appoints sales director

STIHL Inc., manufacturer of gasoline-powered handheld outdoor power equipment, has named Steve Meriam director of sales. Meriam, who previously served as the company’s manager of national sales and product development, will manage the continued growth of the STIHL brand and improvements in U.S. product sales and distribution.

“Steve has played an integral role in our success over the past several years,” said Nick Jiannas, vice president of sales and marketing, STIHL. “We are confident that he will continue to grow sales and solidify our position as number one.”

Meriam began his career with forestry and logging jobs in Canada. He was appointed to territory manager of Manitoba and Saskatchewan for STIHL Limited by Fred Whyte, who started up the Canadian operation and is now president of STIHL Inc.

His career moved in a new direction as he began selling the tools he once used, and his hands-on experience soon proved to be invaluable, according to the company. He went on to hold multiple executive level sales positions at STIHL Limited prior to relocating to the U.S. in 1997 and assuming the role of branch manager at Northeast STIHL. In 2002, he was promoted to manager of national sales and product development for STIHL Inc.

“I look forward to fostering STIHL growth and continuing to deliver the quality products and service that our customers depend on for their homes and work,” Meriam said. “I’ve used STIHL throughout my career and my life, and I firmly believe we make the best product out there.”
