Polaris released its 2017 lineup of Ranger utility vehicles (UTV), which features mid-size, full-size, crew and special edition models. The line’s flagship model, the Ranger XP 1000, is powered by a ProStart 1000 engine with 80 hp—17 percent more power than its predecessor.
All XP 1000 models feature a three-mode throttle control switch on the dash. Operators can choose from three modes—performance, standard and work—depending on driving conditions and intended use of the vehicle. The performance mode offers maximum and instant throttle response for snappier acceleration, the company said, and standard mode is designed to add torque to a high-speed performance. Work mode provides lengthened low RPM band for better slow-speed control and is designed for towing a trailer or navigating tight spaces.
The Ranger XP 1000 special editions include two new High Lifter mud editions in full-size and Crew; the Ranger XP 1000 EPS Ranch Edition; and the Ranger XP 1000 EPS NorthStart HVAC and Crew HVAC Editions, which the company said are the first gas-powered UTVs with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
The HVAC Ranger XP 1000 EPS and Crew 1000 EPS is designed to ensure weather doesn’t slow productivity. They feature a sealed cab system and an HVAC system that pumps fresh air into the cab and forces dust out, according to Polaris. It also includes an electronically-controlled engine thermostat, designed for quick heating.
The Ranger XP 1000 EPS Ranch Edition offers a self-leveling rear suspension with Nivomat shocks. The shocks automatically adjust the suspension depending on load, giving the machine more ground clearance. A lower spring rate gives the machine a smoother ride and the ability to go long distances at 50 mph fully loaded—an effort to make hauling material quicker and easier, according to the company.
The company also offers more than 350 accessories, like a full-body skid plate, 4,500-pound winch, front and rear bumpers, a rear-view mirror, sport roof, fold-down headache rack, rear power with dash-mounted switch, T-post rack and wire fence spoiler.
