Lawn care business thrives as housing market improves

|

As 2013 brings new hope for the housing market, one lawn care company executive explained on Fox Business’ After the Bell that business has been good.

Liz Claman, the television show’s host, asked the owners of three businesses in the home service industry to reveal what they are experiencing now that housing starts are up, existing home sales are increasing, and home prices appear to be on the rise.

“We’re doing great,” said Lawn Doctor CEO Scott Frith, who appeared on the show with Two Men and a Truck Chairwoman Melanie Bergeron and WIN Home Inspection President Steve Wadlington. “Last year was one of the best years in our history.”

The 45-year-old franchise with 450 locations across the United States had an 18 percent increase in customer counts and a 6.5 percent jump in average revenue per customer. “So far this year we’re up 8.8 percent through February,” Frith said.

He expects this year to outpace last year and is looking forward to having the best year in the company’s history as it aims for 500 locations across the country.

Homeowners who are selling see lawn care as a way to set their homes apart from all the other properties on the market, he said. In addition, lawn care offers homebuyers a way to invest in their properties that they can enjoy.

As she concluded her interview with Frith, Claman asked for the top green-related item residents use to make the outside of their homes look good when selling. “The lawn is the best frame for the property,” Frith said. “But of course, I’m a little biased.”
