K&D Landscaping unveiled executive promotions and a geographic expansion south into San Luis Obispo County.
As the company celebrates its 40th year in the business, these changes align with K&D’s philosophy of teamwork and putting the “right people in the right seats.” The restructuring creates a foundation for scaling commercial construction, bettering service quality and pioneering autonomous technology.
Bringing quality to San Luis Obispo
To support the demand for professional commercial landscape services in San Luis Obispo County, K&D is expanding its operations south. Leading this expansion on the ground is Juan Sotelo, the company’s longest-tenured employee. With more than 35 years of experience at K&D, Sotelo serves as the maintenance supervisor.
Driving industry innovation
Sean Laux has been promoted from account manager to the new role of technology and innovation manager. Laux will lead the rollout of robotics, autonomous mowing fleets and data-driven operational systems. His role will help move K&D beyond traditional landscaping, focusing on efficiency and the safety improvements that come with automation.
Elevating service standards in Monterey
Katie Hsu has been promoted to area manager – Monterey, effective January 1, 2026. Hsu will oversee operations in Monterey in her new role, supporting field teams and bettering the client experience. This promotion reinforces K&D’s commitment to professionalism and ensures the company delivers consistent service as it continues to grow in this critical market.
Expanding commercial construction capabilities
Brian Gates is transitioning from senior project manager to department leader of commercial construction.
With commercial development demands on the rise, Gates will lead the division responsible for large-scale installations and infrastructure projects. His leadership plans to streamline project delivery and expand the company’s capacity to handle complex construction contracts. He approaches this growth with humility, knowing that success relies on a cohesive unit and sets the tone for a successful year.
A vision for 2026
“Reaching our 40th year is a proud milestone, but we are focused on the future,” says Justin White, CEO of K&D Landscaping. “By expanding into San Luis Obispo with Juan’s veteran leadership and elevating Sean, Katie and Brian, we are building a structure that can scale.”
