With an increasing emphasis on benchmarks for quality management in the snow removal industry, John Allin Consulting brought Tammy Johnson on board to assist contractors with preparing for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 and SN 9001 certification audits.

Formerly executive director of Snowfighters Institute, Johnson has oversight of the consulting firm’s pre-audit gap assessment service for North American contractors who seek to become certified by ISO in the area of snow and ice management. In her role, she will review what is necessary for contractors to successfully prepare themselves for the ISO 9001 and SN 9001 certification audits.

“ISO 9001 in conjunction with the ANSI-ASCA A1000-2014 Written Snow Industry Standards will allow professional snow and ice management contractors to set themselves up to be the leaders in their chosen profession,” said John Allin, owner of the consulting firm. “Contractors who adhere to the ANSI-ASCA 1000-2014 Written Snow Industry Standards will find themselves better able to defend against spurious liability claims that are inevitable in our industry. By becoming ISO certified, snow contractors will be able to prove they follow the written standards.”

John Allin Consulting already identifies gaps in the documentation and process development required to pass an ISO 9001 and SN 900 audit. It also helps snow contractors to fill in those gaps with the required documentation process needed. An ISO auditing body identifies such gaps, but is prohibited in assisting the contractor in instituting necessary protocols and process’s required to actually pass a certification audit.

“This is the next natural evolution for the snow industry in its quest to become better educated and more professional in its service offering,” said Johnson, who also is a former director of the Snow & Ice Management Association. “I’m excited to again be on the forefront of monumental changes to the industry.”
