As the inaugural winner of the InvestMaryland Challenge, North East, Md.-based i-lighting opened a new 4,650 square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility.

The company recently received a $100,000 grant from Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley through the InvestMaryland Challenge, a national business competition hosted by the state to honor early-stage businesses operating in the life sciences, high tech and general business industries.

“i-lighting exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that has positioned Maryland as one of the best places in the country to start and grow a business,” said Dominick Murray, secretary of the Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development. “The company was chosen from among hundreds of applicants to win the InvestMaryland Challenge. Maryland is here today to not only honor i-lighting’s growth, but also its promising future.”

i-Lighting celebrated its facility’s grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with more than 100 government officials, customers and invited guests at the Cecil Technology Campus in North East, Md.

Numerous members of the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce and i-lighting employees joined in on the official ribbon-cutting as well as an official citation from the Maryland General Assembly, a proclamation from the County Council of Cecil County in Maryland and the presentation of the area’s first VOLT small business loan awarded through Maryland’s Small, Minority and Women-Owned Business loan fund.

“It was an exciting and deeply rewarding day for everyone that helped i-lighting grow from an idea to a home-based business and now to a rising player in the LED lighting field,” said Scott Holland, president and CEO. “Our goal is to continually work with our partners and provide the industry with the highest-quality and easiest-to-use lighting products available in the marketplace today.”
