DETAILS Things didn’t start the greatest for Monarch Landscape Management (MLM) when they first began on their “Belfiore Condominiums” project.

Taking the reins in March 2020, Chris Cornell, account manager for MLM, says it was only two weeks before the COVID pandemic really hit hard. It put a dent in their future plans, and most of the work was first focused on maintaining the property’s overgrown trees, plant replacement and, overall, just getting it up to its multi-million-dollar expectations.

But before their execution on a large renovation could get underway, Texas suffered its big freeze event in February 2021, something Cornell says is still impacting tree and plant health to this day.

However, Cornell says the freeze made the team realize it needed to act quicker, and in March 2022, they kicked off renovations with the goal of giving residents a new landscape and outdoor space to be excited for.

The team focused heavily on plant diversification, planting and maintaining a variety of azaleas, ferns, herbs and much more in the walkable garden spaces and flower beds.

Despite the slow start, MLM won a gold award from the NALP’s 2024 Awards of Excellence program for its efforts.
