Gas leaf blower ban proposed in Sonoma, Calif.

A proposed gas leaf blower ban in Sonoma, Calif., could increase costs for landscaping services. If passed, the ordinance would make Sonoma, a city of 10,000, one of very few in the nation to ban gas-powered blowers.

A few landscape business owners are speaking out against ban.

“You suddenly give me a task that’s going to double that time, and I’m going to have to pass that extra hour on to you,” said Conny Gustafsson, owner of Scandia Landscaping in Sonoma.

On the flip side, Darryl Ponicsan who proposed the ban posed the question, “What’s elitist about using a rake instead of a gas-powered blower?”
