Family investment firm buys Maine landscape company

|

HandShakeChenmark Capital Management, a family investment firm, acquired Seabreeze Property Services in Portland, Maine, in September 2015. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We spent a long time looking for the right company and management to partner with, and couldn’t be more excited about the future of Seabreeze Property Services,” said Palmer Higgins of Chenmark.  “We are eager to help build the company into Maine’s top provider of commercial landscape and snow services over the coming years.”

James Higgins founded Chenmark about six years ago. He; his wife, Trish; and his brother, Palmer, were profiled in the New York Times in September. The article focused on their decision to leave traditional financial and hedge fund work, acquire a snow removal and landscape company and relocate to southern Maine. According to the article, Chenmark found success by shifting its focus to a firm that invests in small businesses. The article also highlights the firm’s use of sites like BizBuySell.com and BizQuest.com to find businesses for sale.

Seabreeze offers year-round services—including property, pavement, snow removal, design/installation and landscape services—to the New England area. Generational Equity advised Seabreeze on the deal.
