Gayle Souter-Brown, managing director at Greenstone Design UK, with locations in London and New Zealand, published a book, “Landscape and Urban Design for Health and Well-Being.”

In the tome, Souter-Brown examines the evidence behind the positive effects of designed landscapes, and explains effective methods and approaches that can be put into practice by those seeking to reduce costs and add value through outdoor spaces.

Using principles from sensory, therapeutic and healing gardens, she focuses on landscape’s ability to affect health, education and economic outcomes, drawing on case studies from the US, UK, Africa, Asia, Australasia and Europe.

“I wrote it to raise the profile of the landscape industry at a time of financial uncertainty and multiple cutbacks,” Souter-Brown said. “It’s written as an accessible academic text for students and practitioners alike. Interestingly people outside of the landscape industry are also finding value in it.”

“Landscape and Urban Design for Health and Well-Being” can be found at most major online book stores, including Amazon.com.
