The Irrigation Association revealed Russ Jundt, co-founder of Conserva Irrigation, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Innovator Award. The IA’s Innovator Award honors individuals who have made significant, tangible contributions to irrigation through innovative work that advances the industry and improves the wise use of water resources.

Russ Jundt co-founded Conserva Irrigation in 2010 — the first irrigation company established solely around the principle of water conservation, according to the association. Driven to address the inefficiencies of traditional sprinkler systems, Jundt led Conserva to develop tools like the System Efficiency Score, a diagnostic platform that helps property owners improve irrigation performance and reduce water waste. Under his leadership, Conserva has improved water efficiency for tens of thousands of systems across the country, and his integration of smart irrigation technologies, such as weather-based controllers and high-efficiency components, has helped shift industry standards toward more sustainable, data-driven practices. Through a franchise-based business model and notable national projects, including work with Target Corporation, the IA stated how Jundt has proven that conservation and profitability can go hand in hand.

“The Irrigation Association is honored to recognize Russ Jundt with this year’s Innovator Award,” said IA CEO Natasha Rankin. “Through his work with Conserva Irrigation, Russ has redefined how our industry approaches efficiency, technology and sustainability. The development of tools like the System Efficiency Score and Russ’ commitment to making smart irrigation the norm — not the exception — have helped reduce water waste on a national scale. Russ’s leadership, outreach and continued commitment to education are helping to build a future where conservation is not only possible, but expected.”

Beyond his role as an entrepreneur, Jundt is a dedicated advocate for sustainable water use and environmental responsibility. He works closely with industry associations, policymakers and communities to promote the adoption of efficient irrigation practices. His efforts have not only helped shape industry conversations but have also supported a broader movement toward innovation and long-term resource stewardship, according to the association.

“For me, founding Conserva Irrigation was about more than just starting a business; it was about standing up for an industry often misunderstood and, more importantly, creating a business model hyper-focused on inspiring others to help join the crusade of saving the Earth’s vital fresh water supply,” said Jundt. “To receive the Irrigation Association Innovation Award is truly humbling and deeply rewarding, affirming that all of Conserva’s passion and purpose are making a real difference.”

The 2025 IA Award recipients will be honored at the 2025 Irrigation Show and Education Week in New Orleans, Dec. 8-11.
