On Oct. 6, Gachina Landscape Management partnered with Family Connections and the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) to clean up its new neighbor, Open Mind School in Menlo Park, Calif.
Five Gachina volunteers, including associate Peninsula Branch Manager Sam Anderson and Production Supervisor Rafael Avila, joined 100-plus passionate citizens to give the school a much-needed face lift, Gachina said. Gachina’s contribution is valued at approximately $3,000.
Gachina employees’ expertise led the way to tackle irrigation repairs, weed control, tree and shrub pruning and mulching.
“Gachina is so proud to be a part of this project. It’s so nice to see young men helping their communities with their families … What a breath of fresh air for the next generation!” Anderson said. “Thanks for allowing us to be a part of it.”
The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) awarded the city of Knoxville, Tenn., with the 2019 Green Leadership City, a distinction awarded to one government agency in the United States each year.
Knoxville was recognized specifically for its adoption of clean, propane-powered mowers, among other environmentally friendly programs that support the city’s sustainability and emissions-reduction goals.
Mayor Madeline Rogero accepted a $5,000 donation from PERC during a celebration event at Suttree Landing Park with city officials and Public Service Department employees, who operate the propane mowers regularly. The donation will benefit Knoxville’s CAC Beardsley Community Farm, a nonprofit based in Knoxville’s Malcolm Martin Park, which is dedicated to promoting food security and sustainable agriculture.
“The Green Leadership City Award is given to one community nationwide every year in recognition of a commitment to environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices,” said Jeremy Wishart, director of off-road business development for PERC. “Over the past few years, the city of Knoxville has worked to demonstrate environmental stewardship in its community by maintaining the city’s green spaces with propane mowers — and we want to thank them for that.”
Case Construction Equipment has partnered with ACM/CMA award-winning artist Jon Pardi to launch a contest designed to recruit new operators to the construction industry. Contest winners will have the opportunity to learn how to operate equipment alongside the country music singer, who in addition to working construction in the past, has a passion for the industry and Case equipment.
As part of the contest, five winners across the U.S. will win an all-expenses-paid trip to the Case Tomahawk Customer Center in Tomahawk, Wis., with the multiplatinum entertainer to go through a three-day training program that will teach them the basics of equipment operation and safety. Winners will also have the option to bring one guest with them to go through the training (travel expenses not included for guest).

Stihl celebrated a new administration building and campus improvements during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 10.
The over $30 million project is part of the company’s continual investment in infrastructure in support of growing U.S. operations. The 80,000-square-foot building brings the sales and marketing, finance and controlling, legal and customer and technical service teams under one roof.
“This new building will improve administrative and operational efficiency allowing us to better serve our network of more than 9,000 authorized Stihl dealers and their customers,” said Bjoern Fischer, president of Stihl. “As we mark 45 years of growth and expansion in Virginia Beach, we look ahead to a continued positive economic environment for successful modern manufacturing in the City of Virginia Beach.”
Takeuchi-US announced Dykes Equipment doing business as Appling Motors as a new dealer, serving south Georgia.
The full-service dealer specializes in new and used equipment. It will carry Takeuchi excavators, skid-steer loaders, track loaders and wheel loaders for its primary customer base of agriculture and small to medium contractors.
Based in Baxley, Ga., Appling Motors has been in business for more than 50 years, originally selling vehicles before transitioning to a tractor sales and service location.
