The clients asked for a private space that would lend itself well to outdoor entertaining and also feature a dining area, spa, swimming pool, cabana and an outdoor kitchen. They also requested plants that would offer optimal spring and fall interest.
The site presented a challenge due to the relatively small space—roughly 6,000 square feet. The narrow streets and lack of parking made the management of multiple trades a tough task. The team and other contractors staged job materials offsite to help save time and prevent potential schedule disruptions.
To achieve privacy, 14- to 16-foot cryptomeria, Nellie Stevens hollies and arborvitae were planted along the property line to provide screening. The result is a stately and lush design that provides privacy and interest at every turn.
The project earned Walnut Hill Landscape Co. a 2017 Grand Award and a 2017 Judges Award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals’ Awards of Excellence program.

The use of opposing geometric lines balanced with a lush landscape gives the illusion of a larger space.

A custom cedar pergola provides vertical interest about the Ipe Veranda and its raised planting beds.

The granite bench is a focal point, beginning the transition into the strong lines of the pool and raised spa.
