Ivy Munion will posthumously receive the first Women in Irrigation Award.

The board of directors of The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) approved the creation of a new award to be given in recognition of women who have made a difference in the irrigation industry.

Areas of contribution include organizational leadership; exemplary contributions to design, education and/or mentoring others in water conservation; efficient system design and management while promoting the irrigation industry.

The award is named in honor of Ivy Munion, the first female president of the society who died in 2016.

The first recipient of the Women in Irrigation Award will be Munion. The award will be accepted posthumously by her husband David Langendorff at the ASIC National Conference in Seattle April 24-25.

In November 2016, ASIC reached its goal of raising $25,000 to create an annual $1,000 memorial scholarship in honor of Munion.
