Arborjet is commemorating National Arbor Day on April 25 with its new, free “Let’s Root for the Trees!” middle school curriculum program, a downloadable lesson on tree health, identification and treatments.
Targeting sixth to eight graders, the curriculum adheres to Common Core State Standards and includes:
- A 45-minute lesson plan for teachers;
- A nonfiction reading passage, titled “Tiny Pest Causes a Big Problem;”
- Class work and written response worksheets;
- An interactive homework assignment; and
- A teacher answer key, writing samples and grading rubric.
Leading up to Arbor Day, Arborjet also is hosting a Let’s Root for the Trees! photo and essay contest. Students can submit a brief essay about a tree that is special to them—a tree they’ve planted, played in or admire—along with a photo of that special tree by June 6 for a chance to win an iPad and one for their class, too. Contest rules and entry submission information are viewable at www.letsrootforthetrees.com/contestentry.
