Team Turf, an Erie, Pa.-based pest and lawn care company, purchased the lawn care portion of Matteo & Sons in New Castle, Pa. This is the company’s first acquisition. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We’re in a mode to grow and wanted to continue to grow and just so happened to run across this opportunity to buy out this company’s lawn care division,” said Mark Conklin, co-owner. “It falls right in our growth pattern that we wanted to follow.”
Team Turf serves a 75 percent residential, 25 percent commercial clientele and offers services such as pest control, landscape lighting, lawn care, aeration, fertilization, weed control and more. Team Turf’s revenue is about $2.1 million. Matteo & Sons’ revenue is about $600,000.
Team Turf was founded 14 years ago by Conklin and Randy Hazer, who had both been in the landscape industry for a little more than 15 years at the time of Team Turf’s founding.
Team Turf opened a Pittsburgh branch three years ago. Conklin said the New Castle addition expands his company’s coverage in the state from north to south, Erie to Pittsburgh, and from the state line to Butler, Pa., from west to east.
“It filled in a nice gap between where we were servicing between Erie and Pittsburgh,” Conklin said of the acquisition. “We’re looking forward to continued growth, we’re continuing to expand looking for and also any other growth opportunities that come by us.”
Conklin says Matteo & Sons owner Frank Matteo will remain with the New Castle branch to help with the transition. With Matteo and staff at the Pittsburgh branch, Conklin said he’s excited to have 25 team members with extensive experience in the lawn care industry.
“We have a great group of team members that allow us to make this next move forward. The acquisition will also allow us to help them grow their careers with us,” he said. “They are our greatest asset along with our customers who value our work.”
