Cutting the cord was the rallying cry for manufacturers who made the trek to sunny Atlanta for the 2019 Home Depot Spring Backyard event on April 16.
Those companies present included Toro, DeWalt, Makita, EGO, Milwaukee and MTD, just to name a few.
Each company had the opportunity to show off its new cordless innovations, all within the footprint of the massive Mercedes-Benz Stadium complex, home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United FC.
While many companies showcased homeowner-related products, quite a few touted commercial-grade products for the “little guy” who’s just getting his start in the industry.

The Home Depot Backyard was a dream come true for those who came to the event with hopes of demoing new equipment.

All throughout the day, attendees and product experts alike had the chance to view the new (and environmentally friendly!) Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The stadium is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified. Components of the complex include the use of water-efficient landscapes, the ability to store 2,000,000 gallons of stormwater on-site and 4,000 solar PV panels that have the ability to power up to 10 Atlanta Falcons games or 13 Atlanta United matches and 82,500 square feet of energy-efficient LED lighting.

The representatives at Toro used an L-shaped pipe and a softball to demonstrate that the company’s 60-volt cordless blower could harness the same power as equivalent gas models.

Associate Editor Sarah Webb gets a lesson in chainsaw operation from the folks at DeWalt.

The pros over at the Makita booth took some time to show off the company’s 18-volt string trimmer, which runs much quieter than gas-powered equipment and has the capacity to trim for more than a mile.
