John Gachina, founder and president of Gachina Landscape Management, died Dec. 27.

He founded Gachina Landscape Management in 1988 with two employees out of his home in Cupertino, Calif. Today, Gachina employs more than 350 team members, runs a fleet of 170 vehicles and operates from multiple locations in the Bay Area.

The company is a long-time member of the National Association of Landscape Professionals and its predecessor organizations. Gachina served as a peer mentor through its Trailblazer program.

“There are no words that can adequately express our sadness of John’s death or the gratitude for his friendship and the opportunity to work along side of him,” said Denise Ritch, human resources director of Gachina Landscape Management. “He leaves behind a strong company and organization of passionate employees that will honor his memory by dedicating themselves to continue the work and service he loved so much.”

Gachina Landscape Management will remain a family-owned business under the leadership of General Manager Craig Van Dorp and the Gachina management team.

Memorial plans have not yet been finalized. The information will be available at gachina.com and the company’s Facebook page.
