Monarch Landscape Management, a commercial landscape management company in Houston, launched “Men in Pink” this year to help educate both its team and the community about breast cancer.
Throughout the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Monarch’s field staff sported pink logoed caps and pink-striped safety vests.
“Our employees have completely embraced and supported the effort to bring awareness to their families and our customers, and they all look forward to building on the idea in the years to come,” said Jason Mathers, president of Monarch Landscape Management.
In addition to helping his employees learn more about breast cancer, Mathers created this initiative because his mother is a breast cancer survivor.
Community members embraced this effort, Mathers said, reaching out through emails, phone calls and even on-site to offer compliments for the pink uniforms.
Monarch raised more than $2,000 for the cure with the help of customers, vendors and team donations.
The “Men in Pink” campaign invited employees and customers to get involved and join its team participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Though heavy rainfall and flooding in the Houston area prompted Susan Komen Houston to cancel the race, all proceeds still went to the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.
“The breast cancer awareness goal was my idea, but Cristal Lozano was our project champion,” Mathers said. “She took to the lead on the project by setting up my company with Susan G. Komen, coordinated our team events, set up the marketing blitz for our team, customers and vendors.”
