LandCare’s support center staff and Baltimore branch teamed up to renovate the nature garden at Buddy Attick Lake Park during the company’s inaugural CommunityCare day. A popular venue with playgrounds, walking trails and fishing, the park’s native plants had been pushed out by invasive species, according to the company, and weeds covered the walkways by the lake. LandCare volunteers cleared the area of invasive plants, edged and mulched beds. The day concluded with a group picnic.
Lucas Tree Experts, a commercial and residential tree and lawn care company in Falmouth, Maine, was awarded the state’s 2015 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence by Governor Paul LePage along with seven other businesses. The annual award has recognized successful Maine businesses for 25 years. It’s presented to companies with “a steadfast commitment to employees, customers and the community,” according to the application. Lucas Tree started in 1926, and now brings in $50 million in annual revenue with customers across New England, the Southeastern U.S. and Canada.
Eastern Land Management (ELM), a Stamford, Conn.-based commercial landscape management firm, was awarded a bronze level Overall Safety Achievement Award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP). ELM received the award by demonstrating safety performance and adhering to a safety program. The award will be presented at GIE+EXPO in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 22.
Landscape Management Services (LMS) was recognized as one of three Water Management Corporate Excellence Partners at the Bay Area Landscape Water Conference. The full-service grounds maintenance company, serving commercial industrial and multi-residential properties, is based in San Jose, Calif. The Water Management Corporate Excellence Partner award acknowledges area companies that demonstrate a high level of commitment to reducing landscape water use through the effective management of resources. LMS helps decrease water use on its clients’ properties by implementing the latest irrigation technologies to increase efficiency and eliminate runoff as well as replacing select areas with drought-tolerant landscapes.
The LaurelRock Co., a residential landscape design/build and maintenance firm based in Fairfield County, Conn., was named a Top Workplace in Southern Connecticut by Hearst Connecticut Newspapers. The 50-company list is based on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, a research firm specializing in organizational health and workplace improvement. The survey measured several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution and connection. The company is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Stihl is providing outdoor power equipment and operational and safety training to the maintenance and operations crews caring for the grounds of the National September 11 Memorial. The company donated $20,000 worth of equipment, including trimmers, blowers and pruning saws. The museum commemorates the victims of the 2001 and 1993 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, N.Y.
