Companies in the News: Dixie Lawn Service, 911 Landscaping

Dixie Lawn Service of Kings Mountain, N.C., recently deployed its new remote controlled lawn mower on the side of an interstate road in South Carolina, as a part of a contract with the York County office of the state’s Department of Transportation, according to the Herald.

The 2,500-pound device, manufactured by Alamo and called a TRAXX RF, has the features of a riding mower but is operated by a worker with a handheld remote control. The mower is lauded as a safe option for terrain too uneven for a ride-on mower and an economic option for a task often completed by a team of workers.

911 Landscaping came to the rescue of an ailing San-Antonio woman. After a local mower repairman took her money and refused to return her mower, and with city ordinances for an uncut lawn looming, Lupe Cantu, who is 70 years old and has two aneurysms, was at a loss.

Once word of the situation got back to Rufus Lopez, owner of 911 Landscaping, however, he and his company stepped up to help Cantu. Along with St Mary’s University’s Summer Service Program, a long-term plan is in the works, so Cantu will no longer need to stress about keeping her lawn short.
