Dear LM readers,

I’m sure in one way or another nearly every person reading this magazine has been affected by cancer. Whether you know someone who’s fighting cancer now, someone who’s survived cancer or someone whose life has been taken by cancer, it’s likely this disease has caused you to declare, “Cancer sucks!”

I’ve uttered those words for my hero, my dad. He survived cancer on two different occasions over the last 20 years. He’s battled and beat both testicular cancer and prostate cancer. I’m delighted to say my dad is and has been cancer-free for a decade. At age 72, he’s retired, walks up to five miles each morning and golfs three days a week.

Others aren’t so fortunate.

North Coast Media (NCM), the parent company of LM, is committed to doing something to help make a difference. We’re donating a portion of this month’s company revenue to the American Cancer Society. As you can see above and on the opposite page, our logo is wearing pink this month in honor of this initiative. We chose pink since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but we’re supporting all cancer research.

Beginning on page 40, we profile three landscape companies that are spreading awareness and raising funds for cancer research. We also share a cancer survivor’s tale. If you’d like to have your company featured in next year’s October issue, please send us your story.

This is a new initiative, and one we plan to continue every October. This cause is near and dear to the hearts of many on the NCM team, and we’re excited to be able to do something that matters. The way we see it, it’s our turn to give.

Thank you for being loyal readers of LM!

Kind regards,

Bill Roddy
