The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) presented its Lifetime Leadership Award and Association Leadership Award to Norman Goldenberg and the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association (ONLA), respectively, at its executive-level conference, Great Escape, in Anaheim, Calif.
Lifetime Leadership Award
Presented annually, PLANET’s Lifetime Leadership Award is given to a member of the association who has demonstrated leadership, service and commitment to PLANET and the landscape industry. It honors individuals who have improved the landscape industry, impacted others throughout their careers and demonstrated inventiveness.
Goldenberg, who is past-president of PLANET, centered his career on pest management and lawn care. He was CEO of his own pest management company as well as senior vice president at Terminix and TruGreen. Currently active in Project Evergreen, Goldenberg also is former president of the National Pest Management Association and the Florida Pest Management Association.
He has served on PLANET’s board of directors in many roles, including president, and on many PLANET committees. Moreover, he is very active in PLANET’s government affairs work.
“Through his knowledge, commitment, dedication and support of many national and state associations, Norman has greatly impacted our industry in a positive way,” said Sabeena Hickman, CEO of PLANET. “We are better people, better organizations and a better industry as a whole thanks to his involvement.”
Association Leadership Award
ONLA, the recipient of the Association Leaderships Award, has been an active state association member of PLANET for many years—it was the first state association ambassador of PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation (AEF), which provides educational scholarships to college students in the landscape industry. ONLA is the single largest contributor to the foundation, contributing $358,000, to date, to the association.
Additionally, ONLA is a certification licensee, providing opportunities for Ohio landscape professionals to become Landscape Industry Certified.
“ONLA has been a great supporter of landscape education for college students,” Hickman said. “It makes a big impact in the landscape industry in Ohio, and it is a great partner with us on a variety of programs, including PLANET Day of Service.”
