Webinar to fix on state support for Smart Irrigation Month

Irrigation AssociationLowell Kaufhold, chair of the Irrigation Association’s (IA) Smart Irrigation Month committee, will head a free webinar 3 p.m. EST Jan. 15 to provide tips on how to get states to proclaim July as Smart Irrigation Month. Slated to last 30 minutes, the webinar also will allow additional time for questions after the presentation.

The webinar comes on the heels of a record-breaking year for state proclamations, with 10 states and four municipalities issuing official proclamations to recognize July 2013 as Smart Irrigation Month. By the end of the month, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia and Wyoming had issued official proclamations, and California issued a letter of support. At the municipal level, Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Okla., and Denver and Greeley, Colo., also issued proclamations.

Kaufhold, who also is president of CPS Distributors in Westminster, Colo., said, “Attaining proclamations for Smart Irrigation Month provides the credibility from state governments that is essential for promoting smart water use.”

Launched in July 2005, the IA created Smart Irrigation Month to increase public awareness of the importance of water-use efficiency during summer’s peak demand.
