Banding trees with the BugBarrier Tree Band is becoming a preferred control method for climbing and crawling insects, including spring and fall cankerworm, as well as winter moths. The pesticide- and pheromone-free adhesive banding system is so effective, the company says, that it is required to be registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a “mechanical pesticide.” Its dense, flexible fiber barrier fills bark crevices. The adhesive film barrier is then installed over the fiber, with the adhesive side facing the tree. This exclusive design eliminates unsightly debris that insects turn into bridges, and keeps insect carcasses out of sight. Best of all, it can be installed in less than five minutes.
