Dominick Mondi, executive director of the New Jersey Nursery & Landscape Association, expressed some insights into immigration reform and the Green Industry’s need for a comprehensive and well-developed plan.
The country needs to retain government programs like H-2A for agriculture and H-2B for landscape, Mondi explained, and he dispelled many of the misconceptions surrounding them. For example, he said it’s a myth that American jobs are being lost to guest workers through these programs and it’s untrue that these programs lower labor wages. In fact, they keep them elevated by keeping businesses running, making wages more competitive for all workers.
