Wilfred H. “Dick” Tegtmeier, 74, co-founder of Exmark Manufacturing and founder of Encore Manufacturing passed away last week. Tegtmeier started out with Kees Manufacturing in the 1970s where he designed a line of lawn mowers. From his time at Kees came the chance to start Exmark.
“When we started Exmark, people said, ‘You’re crazy,’” Tegtmeier told the Beatrice Daily Sun at a company anniversary celebration in 2002. “When we started Encore, they said, ‘You have to be a complete idiot.’”
The Journal Start reports that during Tegtmeier’s time with Encore the business grew 640 percent and that Tegtmeier’s hometown is referred to as the lawn mower capital of the world.
